Social Studies Quarter 2 Learning Objectives: The Southeast and Midwest Regions of the U.S.

Quarter 2 begins November 9th and runs through the end of January.  Our first unit of study this quarter, Unit 3, will focus on the Southeast Region.  Students will take a virtual tour, learn the state names and the names of each state's capital, and the locations of each of the southeastern states on the map.  They will focus on these essential questions:
What defines the Southeast region?

How does geography affect life in the Southeast region?

In unit 4 we will begin our study of the Midwest.  Another virtual tour will enable us to focus on the region's importance agriculturally, as "the nation's breadbasket."  Students will focus their study on these essential questions:


What defines the Midwest region?
 How has the Midwest changed over time?
